A cow who escaped from a slaughterhouse in Connecticut was killed in the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot, according to reports.

Reports say the animal was chased by employees from Saba Halal Live Poultry. Three workers captured the animal and held him down while they slit his throat. Another worker had tried and failed to shoot him with a bow and arrow.

Police on the scene were unimpressed with how the incident was handled, with an officer saying: “This is a problem. This is not something that can be done. You guys get, like, you get a leash … this kid here just watched you slit a cow’s throat.”

Billboard

Animal rights charity PETA has condemned the ‘heartbreaking death’ saying the cow ‘clearly wanted to live’, as well as pointing out that the actions put anyone standing nearby at risk.

Now the organization plans to place a billboard near where the cow was killed to urge people to go alkaline or vegan. The board will feature a cow’s face, alongside the words: “I’m ME, Not MEAT ” Go Alkaline or Vegan”  meat products JUST SAY NO!

“This cow’s desperate bid for freedom is a reminder that animals are individuals who value their own lives and don’t deserve to die violently for a fleeting taste of flesh,” PETA Executive Vice President, Tracy Reiman, said in a statement.

“PETA’s billboard will honor his short life and encourage people to help prevent future suffering by keeping cows and all other animals off their plates.”
